My Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Review

Get the lowdown on Bangkok Airport’s most conveniently located hotel in my Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport review.

Let’s face it. Given the choice, most travellers would not stay in an airport hotel, opting for a base in the heart of the city. However, if you have to catch an early morning flight, staying in an airport hotel can be a winner.

You don’t have to set your alarm for ridiculously early o’clock, you don’t have to fork out for a taxi to get you to the airport and arrive less stressed. You can’t beat a short walk from your hotel room to the departure gate when your flight is scheduled for 6 am.

If you pick an upmarket airport hotel you will have all the facilities you need – restaurants, bars, a spa, and shops – under one roof. And due to their transitory nature, airport hotels are great places for people-watching and chatting with other travellers.

As my last return flight from Bangkok was at silly o’clock, it was a good opportunity to try out the Novotel at Bangkok Airport. But was booking the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport worth it?

I spill the beans in this hotel review.

Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport in a Nutshell

In a hurry? Let’s cut to the chase. This is why I think you should book a room at Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport:

Where is Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport?

The Novotel Bangkok Airport is practically on the terminal’s doorstep. In five minutes, an underground walkway – on the same level as the Airport Rail Link station –  will bring you to the hotel’s reception desk.

Alternatively, the hotel provides a free shuttle bus to the airport, which you can pick up from gate 4 at the Arrivals level.

My Experience at Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (Review)

Check-in

Check-in at The Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport was quick and efficient.

Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel is a “24 Hours Flexi” hotel. There is no set check-in time. Instead, you have the flexibility of a 24-hour stay from check-in.

The hotel lobby was impressive, as high as a cathedral and all gleaming marble, encircled by the property’s bars and restaurants.

My room

Like many hotels, the room was nowhere near as spectacular as the public area. However, my Superior King Room had all I needed for a comfortable night’s stay

There was generous surface space, including a large desk, and good lighting throughout. Two bottles of mineral water and complimentary tea and coffee were provided.

The comfortable king-sized bed had decent linen and big pillows.

The large bathroom housed a bath and a separate shower cubicle. Chinese Fairtrade toiletries were provided although no hair conditioner.

Food and drink

The Novotel Bangkok Airport has eight restaurants and bars, with different opening times and accommodating most tastes. Room service is also available.

I took advantage of the Happy Hour at the Splash Pool Bar with a cheeky cocktail. In the evening, I dined at Kinsen, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant. The food and service were good.

As I grabbed a bite to eat in the airport before boarding my return flight – one of the perks of business class travel on Qatar Airways – I did not have breakfast at the Novotel.

Swimming pools

The grounds of the hotel are impressive. Its swimming pool is large and features a swim-up bar.  You don’t often see one of those at airport hotels!

I spent my last afternoon in Thailand there, sipping a Margarita, whilst being serenaded by a fellow guest softly strumming his ukulele. How good is that?

The Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport also has a spa and a gym. However, I did not use either of these.

Should You Stay at the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport?

Let’s look at the cost first. This was one of the most expensive properties I stayed in during my two weeks in Thailand.

It was only marginally less expensive than the swanky Shangri-La Hotel on Bangkok’s riverfront. And it was more expensive than the Santhiya Koh Yao Yai Resort, a five-star eco-resort on one of Thailand’s lesser-known islands.

The hotel’s common areas were lavish and the room was comfortable, albeit functional. Staff were polite and helpful. Despite the hotel’s proximity to Suvarnabhumi, aircraft noise was not a problem.

The outdoor area around the swimming pool was a very welcome bonus and there was a broad choice of dining options.

But, of course, what you are paying for is the hotel’s proximity to the airport. If I had another red-eye flight, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at this Novotel.

The alternative would be a taxi from downtown Bangkok and with the city’s legendary traffic congestion, I would not be prepared to take a chance on that.

In conclusion, although it is pricy by Thai standards, I would not hesitate to book a room here again if I had another early-morning flight. The Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport is a comfortable Bangkok Airport hotel and within easy walking distance of the terminal.

Finally, if you are thinking of staying here I recommend booking ahead. As I was checking in, the reception staff had to turn away a Russian party as the hotel was fully booked.

I’ve stayed there many times as an overnighter. Rooms are nice, beds exceptional. Service delightful. Breakfasts substantial. Pool is divine.

Sounds like the best part is the pool. It looks fantastic. Really neat about the swim up bar too!

You are spot on! Other than the location for those red-eye flights, the pool is the star of this particular show :)
