GERMANY

For my money, Germany is one of the most underrated destinations in Europe. I first went there on a school trip to the Black Forest and Bavaria at the tender age of 12 and have returned many times since.

Although largely landlocked, Germany more than makes up for its spectacular interior landscapes and fairytale towns and villages. My favourite spots include the dramatic Rhine Valley and the gorgeous towns and cities of Bavaria, including Nuremberg and Bamberg.

And erase dodgy bottles of Liebfraumilch from your memory. German wines are superb (and they keep the best stuff for domestic consumption)!
